STV has become “Scotland’s digital media company”, offering our viewers choices that few could have predicted only a few years ago. That’s because the 21st century is witnessing unprecedented change in the media landscape with the rapid expansion of digital media channels. Those (traditional) media channels that stand still and rest on past laurels face a bleak future.

So, as Scotland’s favourite medium, having built our reputation since 1957, it’s essential that we continue to invest in a strong identity for STV and in delivering high quality, relevant and entertaining content both on TV screens and on digital platforms. We do this to provide new and innovative commercial opportunities for our advertisers and sponsors to target their customers. We are constantly adding to the platforms in which our viewers can engage with that content, and introducing new types of programming content that can be viewed exclusively online or on mobile.

STV’s Video On Demand Service, The STV Player has been voted the best commercial catch up site in the UK by independent user experience consultancy Webcredible (October 2010). The STV Player can vbe accessed on our Channel website (at and on You Tube - with over 2,500 hours of gilt edged archive programmes that reflect the history of Scotland, this is a completely new way to reach audiences.

In STV Local we have one of the most relevant and ambitious media expansion programmes in the UK and it means that STV customers can now reach viewers in either their millions or in their hundreds, depending on their needs.


The STV Digital Audience continues to grow. In September 2011 across our Digital portfolio STV attracted 2,200,000* Unique Browsers – making one of the most popular online destinations in Scotland.
